Have you met your future self?

I’d no sooner joined the Zoom call with my coach when she forewarned me that at some point during our call she’d need to excuse herself to sign for a delivery.

No problem. Been there myself.

Within seconds the doorbell rang. Bonus, better now than when we’re deep in discussion.

She returned to the call with a giant box of flowers.

How lovely, I commented.

Thank you. They’re from my future self, she replied.

How kind of your future self, I said.

If you’re not familiar with the concept of future self, it’s an exercise common in the coaching community and with some mental health practitioners.

In short, future self is an idealized version of you – the you who has done the work, garnered wisdom and experience and perspective.

As we ogled over the fresh flowers, she went on to explain how receiving this delivery every other week serves as a reminder of the work she is doing every day. The wins and misses. The messy moments and everything in between.

It’s a wink, a high five from the person who matters most, herself.

They also serve as inspiration and motivation to keep going. Because if future self is sending flowers now, imagine what more will result as she continues to grow and create a more magical life?!

And, as she lastly explained, why not now? This is my life and sending fresh flowers to myself just feels gooooood.

I couldn’t agree more.

This week, why not do something your future self would do? You’re worth it.

Be well.
