Your past has NOTHING to do with your future (and why that’s the BEST news)

I recently set some big goals for myself. And I’m super pumped and scared and excited and freaked out all at the same time.

This process reminded me of a classic mindset book entitled What Got You Here Won’t Get You There by Marshall Goldsmith, one of the most eminent executive coaches.

And, thanks to social media, this phrase has become mindset gold with oodles of likes and double taps.

But what does it truly mean?

Basically, your past successes (and failures for that matter) are irrelevant. They have zero impact on your future. And that is incredibly stupendous news!

Because history is NOT destined to repeat itself UNLESS you continue to think and do and act as you have in the past.

Your future gets created by what you think, feel and do now, today, in the present.

Even if you’re content in your current life situation, it’s human nature and perfectly normal to aspire for more.

Yet in order to be, grow and have more, we have to change our thinking. We have to feel different feelings. We have to take new actions.

Otherwise, we’re doing more of the same, recycling our thoughts and actions and wondering why we’re not meeting our goals or getting what we want.

So how do we move forward and grow?

It starts with showing up differently. Thinking differently. Feeling differently and doing differently.

Sounds simple, right?

It is but it’s not easy.

For now, let this settle in. Mull it over. Contemplate.

And start pondering where in your life are you willing to try something different to get that different future?

See you next week for more on this subject and manageable tips for how to start showing up differently.

Be well.
